Identity theft – as we all know – is on the rise and identity thieves are becoming harder to stop and more and more adept at getting personal information from people. Are you properly protected? Did you think about protecting your personal credit or your computers from being hacked into by ID thieves?

Identity Theft Deterrent includes a lot of must-have information on how to protect yourself from any kind of identity theft…things you might never have thought about. It first explains how identity thieves work, how they get hold of your personal information, what they do with the information, and how to stop them from using it to their advantage. It also provides you with ideas on how to be removed from junk mailing lists, how to keep your bank details secure, how to be plastic card aware, what not to disclose on social networking sites, and more.

In my opinion, Identity Theft Deterrent‘s 10-step identity theft protection plan gives fantastic advice and strategies to safeguard your identity and valuables. It is very important to be aware of ID theft dangers and to know how to spot them.

Overall, Identity Theft Deterrent gives you the upper hand on avoiding becoming an identity theft victim. This is a timely product at the right time as internet use by moms and children are on the rise. And last buy not least, it’s being sold at a fair price.

Even in good times, many families can’t take a yearly vacation because of the cost. With the economy the way that it is, it is even less likely that a vacation is in order. But what if there were easy ways to earn extra money this year so that you could take that much needed family vacation?

As a matter of fact, there are creative ways that you can earn extra cash towards that vacation you deserve and need. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Hold a yard sale – Most of us have a few extras in our garage or in storage that we can stand to let go of. You never know…one man’s stuff gathering dust is another man’s treasure. You could be sitting on a gold mine. If you are traveling with other family members or friends, hold a joint yard sale at your church or larger venue so that the proceeds benefit everyone.

Count your change – If you really look, you’d probably find several dollars’ worth of coins around your house. Use piggy banks and empty jars to fill with the change from your pockets each day. Make it a scavenger hunt for the kids. Whoever can find the change gets to keep it in their jar. Each month, cash in the change and place the money in an account just for your vacation.

Create a budget – Budgeting helps us find extra money not just for a vacation but to put towards savings for the future. Cutting out unnecessary expenses can help you eke some money out of your monthly paycheck. To make it a win-win situation, divide the money you find between a household savings account and a vacation one.

Save on insurance – This may be the perfect time to re-examine your insurance policies. For vehicles that are paid off, you can change the policy and drop collision to save money there. Get a free car insurance quote online. Homeowner’s insurance policies can be tweaked to meet your changing needs and to save a little green. There are no shortage of ads and commercials offering incentives to switch insurance companies.

Use the Internet – This is a great place for making money. You can sell items on eBay at auction; begin a blog and include ads to make passive income; get paid for participating in surveys. All of these ideas can bring in extra money towards your vacation fund.

Save birthday money – Don’t let that money burn a hole in your pocket. Add it to your piggy bank for a future vacation. For kids, it can be the money they use to buy souvenirs.

There are ways you can earn extra cash for a well-deserved vacation. Use the above suggestions to get you started.

Have you ever bought something on a whim, then afterward wish you hadn’t? That could be a case of buyer’s remorse, or it could be a case of emotional spending. The latter is when you purchase something on an impulse without giving it much careful planning or forethought. Doing this can get you into big financial trouble. This doesn’t mean you can’t buy anything fun, it just means you need to have a good handle on your discretionary income, or money that you have left over after paying necessary expenses.

There are many ways to control impulse purchases and prevent getting yourself into debt. Some of these ways are:

Pay close attention to the things you buy. Some people shop out of boredom. To avoid this, only shop when you really need something and keep a track of what you put in your cart. This includes the things that you “add to cart” online.

Try not to overindulge in fantasies. It’s okay to want to impress a friend with an expensive dinner or wow everyone at work with a really nice new outfit, but don’t act these out because it can become costly.

Beware of small purchases because they can quickly add up. You may feel less guilty about buying something that’s cheap, but then you may feel like it will be okay to buy more cheap things.

If you treat yourself every now and then, you will be less likely to impulsively spend large amounts of money. Just plan ahead. If there was a pair of cute new shoes you wanted to get, save for it. You’ll feel much better about it and it won’t mess up your financial security.

Acknowledge the feelings that make you want to spend more. If you notice the emotions that are making you feel the need to buy things, you might be less likely to act on them.

Always keep your priorities in mind. There will be no shortage of bad days, but rather than seeing material things as a way to make you feel better, try focusing on your more important goals. If your goal is to get out of debt, then look at making senseless purchases as an obstacle in your way of achieving that goal. If you want to make a large purchase like buying a new car or paying extra on your mortgage, take the money you would normally spend frivolously and squirrel it away.

Stay away from retail situations. Try to avoid going to the mall, shopping on eBay, or being drawn in by catalogs. All they want is to get your money and it’s so easy to overspend in those situations.

Take the scenic route, or somewhere that doesn’t involve you traveling through a strip mall or near any place you would normally enjoy shopping.

Try also to come up with your own unique solutions. You could try reading a book to get you through a boring day rather than shopping. You could also just have a friend or two over and watch some shows or movies. There are many ways to have fun or get through the rough patches without wasting money on emotional spending.

Clear the clutter on your desk to significantly improve your productivity. If you can’t find an important file or even find a space for your laptop, you will waste valuable time looking for the file or just clearing off space. Worse still, clutter can be demoralizing and foster procrastination. Fortunately, decluttering your desk is possible – in just a few simple steps. Here’s how:

Manage your time. First and foremost, if the task seems overwhelming, set a timer and limit yourself to just 15 minutes of decluttering at a time. You’ll be amazed at how much you can get done in just 15 minutes.

Put up or give up. Clear your desktop and put back only what you use every day. Store everything else in drawers, on shelves, or in your supply closet. If you never or seldom use something, get rid of it. Give it away to someone who could make good use of it. Put anything that doesn’t belong on your desk in a pile. When the timer goes off, put all of those things away in their proper places.

No more MISC. Don’t keep a “miscellaneous” file. Sort papers into files labeled specifically for the action needed. For example, keep a file for bills to pay, receipts to enter, papers to shred, and so on. Anything that cannot be filed this way is not important enough to keep. Maintain virtual folders and sub-folders the same way.

Organize your drawers. Arrange like items in each drawer. For example, put all of your office supplies in one drawer, stationery and notepads in another. That way, you won’t waste a lot of time searching for a pen when on the phone or looking for printer paper just before a deadline.

Clean out your virtual inbox. Declutter your virtual desk by deleting old emails that require no further action on your part. To store email you need to save, create a folder for it on your hard drive. Do not print emails unless you absolutely have to.

Use simple organizational tools. Bundle related papers together with clips, use trays for current papers or files (labeled “next week,” “this week,” etc.), and keep pens in a cup.

Take a moment. Whenever you have a lull in the day, take a moment to trash or shred old paperwork you don’t need anymore.

Conclude cleanly. At the end of each day, before you step away from your desk, clear it off and put everything away in its proper place. Wipe off your desk with a cleaner or just plain water.

Now that your desk is clear of clutter, you can get down to business! A clean desk makes for a clutter-free mind.

Why is it so critical that you talk with your parents about their money? Because as they get older, their ability to make their own financial decisions will likely get worse. If you are caring for elderly parents, this is one important discussion that you need to have with them.

In many instances they won’t be able to keep track of all their income and expense sources, so it’s critical to get everything organized now. Often times medical expenses skyrocket as time goes on, so if they aren’t prepared for this it can be disastrous.

How do you get the ball rolling?

Obviously this is often a hard topic to discuss, and many don’t know how to break the ice. The best option is to do it during a calm time. For instance, right before a big event such as a wedding is obviously not the best time.

Consider scheduling a meeting with a financial planner and make sure to be present yourself. As long as you are patient and explain to your parents the importance of this, eventually they will open up.

What’s the most important issue?

Long-term care — this is what you need to talk to them about. Believe it or not, the most popular reason for bankruptcy filings today is uncontrolled medical expenses.

But won’t their health insurance cover this? In most instances, no – it won’t. Standard coverage won’t help with long-term care such as nurse visits or assisted living centers. If they don’t have additional coverage, they need to finance these expenses themselves.

This is why planning ahead of time is so critical. Remember, no company is going to insure you right on the eve of your parents moving into a nursing home. This just means they are definitely going to have to pay for it.

The insurance companies have to make money too. And the way they do that is by only paying claims to a small percentage of their clients. So the less chance of that happening, the more likely your parents are of getting accepted. In other words, if they are already in declining health they might not be able to get insurance at all.

Consider paying it for them. Many times companies will offer long-term insurance to employees for a steep discount. Therefore, ask them about buying it for them.

Some parents will hesitate at this because they want to be self-sufficient. But it might be necessary if they don’t have the money they need for coverage. Remember, even if they apply early enough to get accepted for long-term coverage, it might be so expensive that it dramatically diminishes their quality of life. In this case it is pointless. That is when you want to step in.

How do you get them organized so you don’t have to check in every other day?

Often times the elderly lose track of their income and expense sources.

The solution? Introduce them to the world of direct deposits and auto payments. This will make handling deposits and payments much easier for you and them.

Make sure to check in regularly when caring for elderly parents… Particularly as they get older. Stay in contact with them and ensure finances are under control. Of course, the level of contact will depend on their personal desires as well as your relationship. The best thing to do is to respect their wishes, while doing the best you can to help them in the process.

Child Care Costs too Much? Here’s How to Cut Costs

When children are small, they need to be watched constantly. When parents have to work, that leaves their children in the care of others for the day. The cost of good quality child care is rising, and parents might be at a loss as to how to afford it.

While good child care costs, you can get ahead of it. If you are a parent paying about $700 a month for one child or double that for two or more children, you almost have to work just to pay that bill.

There is hope. Use these creative methods to help you get ahead of the game and also know that your child is getting the best possible care.

Hire a family member – Having relatives who live nearby is a godsend. Maybe grand-ma or grand-dad can watch the little one until the parents come home. Paying them a fraction of what you were paying the child care facility (plus providing food and other necessities for your child) helps them out, and you as well…especially if they are on a fixed income.

Get help on the job – Dependent child care spending is a program that allows employees to put aside money to pay for their child care bills. The money comes out so you don’t notice it much. So you can budget the rest of your take-home pay according to meet your household needs.

One spouse stays home – This proposition, while favorable, is not always feasible. You may have to work out your budget beforehand to see if it will work. The spouse who makes the most will obviously be the one to keep working. The other spouse, while taking care of the child, may also opt to do the majority of the household chores to balance out the longer work hours of the other spouse.

Share a nanny – If you have good friends who also have child care issues, go in together and hire a nanny. They can watch both your children for you when you need them to. Nannies are a bit more expensive, but sharing the cost will help with that.

Find extra work – There are numerous ways to find extra income online. Do you like to write? You can take up writing work on sites like Elance and Associated Content. Elance also hires software people, website designers and programmers. You can also sell your attic full of collectibles at auction on eBay to make mad money to pay for child care bills.

Switch shifts – It is ideal for both spouses to work the same shift so that there is time for the family in the evening, but that is not always possible. Working opposite shifts can minimize the amount of time in child care. Also, ask your employer if your job can become a telecommuting position. Working from home a few days a week will help out tremendously.

Are you looking for ways to pay for rising child care costs? Begin with these examples.

In today’s economy, a lot of us are looking for work. One of the best way to find new employment is by networking with friends and colleagues. For shy or inexperienced folks, this exercise can be daunting. Here are some helpful tips for developing your networking skills.

Create a target list of people to contact and set contact goals. The list can include family, friends, and neighbors; colleagues; professors and alumni from schools you’ve attended; vendors and salespeople; members of organizations you belong to or volunteer with; other professionals (e.g., accountants, doctors, real estate agents, hair stylists, personal trainers); and bloggers and members of online groups and communities.

Once you have your list, set goals for making contacts. Plan to email three people a week and to meet one person a week, for example.

Develop a 30-second “elevator speech” – a concise statement about who you are, what you are looking for, and what makes you unique. Have it ready and use it at every opportunity.

Create a business card and carry it with you at all times. Companies like Vista Print provide business cards for discounted prices or even for free. The card should include all of your contact information, job title or objective, and even some highlights from your “elevator speech.”

Attend networking events, and come prepared. Networking events may include any meeting or forum held by professional associations, alumni groups, user groups, civic organizations, or social groups. When attending an event, try to obtain a list of attendees in advance or just before you walk in the door.

Decide before you enter whom you want to meet; a reasonable goal might be five people. Dress appropriately (usually business casual) and arrive early. Have pens and business cards ready. Ask others for their cards and follow up with a handwritten note. To overcome shyness, prepare a list of questions in advance.

Practice good manners. When meeting a contact at an event or elsewhere, always say, “please,” and “thank you,” use the person’s name, make eye contact, and when talking to the person again, mention something they said in the first encounter.

Remember that networking is a two-way street. Maintain a mindset of being a resource to others, and help fellow job-seekers whenever you can. This will not only build your network but also boost your confidence; everybody feels good and useful when they can help someone else.

Always maintain a networking frame of mind. Everywhere you go, everyone you meet could present a networking opportunity. Always have your card and your 30-second elevator speech ready, and take every chance you get to let people know who you are and why you’re special.

A long job search can get discouraging, but meeting new people and continuously expanding your contact base can help you stay optimistic. At any moment, you may meet the right person to change the course of your career.
